I’m on both of those and have always been a heavy sugar/carb eater. I have PCOS, btw. I managed to get off soda and coffee completely, but everything else like pasta, bread, and ice cream and chocolate are like impossible for me to get off. I do prefer wheat over white and wish they offered wheat bread at more fast food places when I absolutely have to eat out. I have braces so I don’t eat sticky candies obviously, but unfortunately can eat hard veggies. I stopped drinking since I started these meds. I’m worried about becoming diabetic. My fasting sugar is 96 but my glucose tolerance is high. My typical diet is too many calories first of all and so stressed with school that it’s hard to cut down. I drink water and juice, but can’t go a day without a small milkshake usually from mcdonalds. I also have to have dessert after every meal. I mainly eat pasta dishes and sandwiches with poultry or pb and j. I would like to have fresh fruit instead of milkshakes, and wondering if this is a good way to change my diet as soon as possible. I kept eating like this since I was on those meds but really want to cut out sugar and cut my calorie intake from 2500 down to 1500 a day. I would so do it tomorrow, but afraid that if I just drastically change my diet right away that I’ll become hypoglycemic. Help! I really don’t wanna develop diabetes.

My dilemma – i looked up the recipe for angel food cake and there is sugar in it – i was going to just buy an angel food cake at the store, but now that i see it has sugar would it be ok for my father-in-law to eat?

Any suggestions for a dessert for diabetics would be appreciated (easy recipes and easy to travel with).

I ate a bowl of oatmeal, a banana and had coffee this morning morning, I had a handful of almonds for a midmorning snack, for lunch I had a tuna salad sandwich with a yogurt, for a snack I ate an apple with some cheese slices and then for dinner I had baked chicken with brown rice and mixed veggies. My dessert was a strawberry cheesecake flavored yogurt. Ok I don’t know if this is a lot to eat but to me it seemed pretty healthy. So why am I sitting here at 8 pm freaking ravished. I feel all shaky and my belly is growling. I had over 1500 calories with carbs and proteins so why am I still starving. Every time I eat healthy I end up starving no matter what I eat. I’m tired of spending extra money on healthy food only to end up raiding my fridge at night b/c my belly won’t stop growling and I feel my blood sugar drop. I’m not diabetic I’m just trying to lose weight. What can I do?

My dad has type 2 diabetes. He’s had it for a few years but after spending some time in the hospital recently for nearly slipping into a diabetic coma, he finally has decided to take it seriously (thank GOD).

I’ve been trying for years to help him out by making sugar-free treats, since he’s quite the sweet tooth, but I’m realizing I need to learn more. When I look at the nutrition labels, I don’t know what’s healthy and what’s not. What’s considered an “okay” amount of calories and carbs? I know the lower the better, but how low is that? It seems impossible to avoid them altogether.

Specifically this is bothering me right now because he’s got a birthday coming up and I’m throwing him a surprise party, and I would love to make him some chocolate cupcakes. I think he should be able to enjoy his favorite food on his birthday, just not at the cost of his health. What amount of calories, carbs, and sugar is safe for him to eat in a dessert?

Thanks in advance for the help.
I don’t know if this makes a difference, but he’s 46, he doesn’t exercise but he walks a LOT during the day at work. He’s had his blood sugar around 100 for the past couple weeks.
The reason I’m making cupcakes is so he’s not tempted to eat more than one serving size. I plan on making just enough for all the people at the birthday party.
For the desserts I try to use stevia rather than aspartame or other fake sugars.
