Get this:
My hubby is in the hospital right now. He does NOT have diabetes. A new nurse dropped by my hubby’s room. My hubby was still mostly asleep, and was very groggy. While he was barely alert, the nurse said to him “I’m going to give you your insulin shot now”, and injected him.
Meanwhile, I was in another room, and was just moments in after she did the injection. My hubby turned to me with very wide inquiring eyes asked me “Am I diabetic?” I said “No, you’re not. Why?” He responded, “Well, that nurse just gave me an Insulin shot!”. My teeth just about hit the floor. I asked him, what is her name, and he told me Tammy.
I rushed out to the nurses station, and asked where Tammy was. I motioned her to come over. I asked her “Did you give my husband an insulin shot?”. She pulled her paperwork, and looked quickly over the notes. She said “Yes, I did, but I don’t see in the paperwork that he is needing a shot! I’m going to get my manager right now!” and hurried off.
I returned to my husband and told him what happened. I immediately called my sister in law who is a Labor and Delivery Nurse. She said that he needs to get sugars right away. About that time, Tammy returned with two 8oz apple juice drinks, and a 4oz pudding dessert, and said that my hubby must consume them NOW.
The entire hospital went into overdrive.
One of the staffers said that Tammy would be pulled, and we’d get another nurse. My hubby and I agreed that it was a mistake, but not to punish Tammy because we all make mistakes. She will learn by this, and not to punish her.
They monitored his sugar once an hour: 9:30, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, then 3pm, 7pm, 11pm, 4am, 8am. They encouraged sugar drinks, cookies and such.
Question: Can this effect him longterm? Can this create a scenario that may trigger him to become diabetic? Could he have gone into a DIABETIC COMA?
Those who are well versed with this terrible disease, please educate me on this.
Thanks!

I wanted to cook dinner for my grandpa, and I’m not sure what to make. He is diabetic, but not brittle or anything. Last time he was in the hospital they actually didn’t put him on a diabetic diet, but should still watch the carbs and sugars.
I know his favorite dessert is tirimisu, and he is really a steak and potatoes guy. I was thinking of some sort of coffee-peppercorn rubbed beef tenderloin?
Any ideas?
Nationality would be American for many many generations, but with a Scotch-Irish heritage, and growing up in Missouri ie, a mix of midwestern, southern, and German cooking traditions.
He actually was in Germany for several years in the army, though.

When is it best to use a sugar syrup for poaching peaches and when is it ok to simply blanch in water for a few minutes.
I’m making peaches with Zabaglione as a lighter dessert for Christmas because my brother is diabetic and I want to limit the sugar. I’ve just experimented with some very small peaches & boiled them for 5 minutes – they cooked though & seemed fine so wonder why I might need to add sugar to the water. I also wanted to add some lemon or orange rind to the water or syrup as a flavouring. What do you think?

I need at least 10 recipes designed for children that have to be baked in the oven from a range of sources, such as TV, internet, and recipe book, magazines, etc. Its proving to be quite hard.
I need at least one vegetarian dish, a couple of dessert dishes and probably at least one diabetic/lactose intolerant.
I’d be grateful for any help
thanks x
Also could you make sure any submitted are in GRAMS
thanks again
You know, to all those people who say that i could do my homework myself, I kind of am in the middle of it. I asked question because i wanted help, and sarcastic remarks do NOT.

I’m looking for a good combination of flours to use for baking a sweet cheese braid. I don’t want to buy a pre-mixed flour. I want to mix my own. I need the right combination. I also want to make it lower in carbohydrates for a diabetic. I’m not sure what to use since this is a dessert bread.
Any suggestions?
